About Karl Wannemacher

portrait-karl-wannemacherKarl Wannemacher is a pioneer of the top-class cuisine in Berlin. Long before the new culinary stars he has had a lasting effect on the Berlin gastronomy scene – and has not ceased to this day to develop the classical cuisine further. By way of example, as the first Berlin top chef he integrated Asian flavours into his creations.

Already in the seventies Wannemacher cooked at the highest level in Berlin: He was the sous-chef in the very first Berlin two-star-restaurant, the legendary Maitre. In 1982, Wannemacher opened the Alt Luxemburg – the only top-class restaurant of the West-Berlin era still existing today.

Wannemacher received the coveted Michelin star for his cuisine 13 times in a row. In 1997, Karl Wannemacher was distinguished as “Berlin Master Chef.” In the Gault Millau guide the Alt Luxemburg currently has 17 points.
